In the parish where Saint Pelagius was supposed to have been born, there are remains of a Romanesque monastery of Benedictine nuns.
This convent was founded during the 10th century by the bishop Hemoicio, Saint Pelagius’ uncle. The remains preserved are part of a rectangular building with attached rooms on the North side. There is a tympanum decorated with a flower or a cross similar to the one on the church of Santiago in Bembrive (Vigo) and others in Portugal. On the other side of the tympanum there is a magnificent Christ Pantocrator surrounded by two angels and supported by two decorated imposts. On the façade we can see a door formed by a semicircular arch and a window above said arch. The entrance is flanked by two tall attached pillars with vegetal decorations in the capitals. At the back you can see the remains of a pointed arch with a window, more recent than the frontal one.
A hidden and forgotten Romanesque jewel.
