Ancient fortress with circular plant rebuilt in 1997 as a defensive fort at the end of the current seafront promenade.
Between 1665 and 1668, when A Guarda was under Portuguese power during the Restoration War, the Santa Cruz Castle and the Watchtower were occupied. It was demolished in 1945 to ease the extension of the large nets used by the fishing boats.
It currently houses the Museo del Mar (Museum of the Sea) and has two large collections: one ethnographic and another of malacology
