It was built over the remains of an old tower, similar to those located in Catoira and A Lanzada. They were used to alarm each other when the Normans invaded. Its construction began in 1800 and it was finished in 1817, with the war against the French being the main reason of this delay. The church has a Latin cross floor plan, a pulpit made of wood and a groin vault above the main altar. It was blessed for worship by the abbot of San Martín Pinario in 1820, while the first mass was celebrated by Marcos Núñez, along 17 more priests.
